Manage consent and segments

Separate WhatsApp consent from audience membership, understand sender restrictions, and use static or dynamic Waaru segments safely.

Reviewed

Consent answers whether your workspace may contact a person. A segment answers which known contacts belong to an audience. Keep these decisions separate: membership never overrides consent or a WhatsApp restriction.

An explicit opt-out applies to the contact across the workspace. It blocks broadcasts, business-initiated messages, assignment, and human replies until consent is restored through the audited consent action.

Provider restrictions can be narrower. A restriction may block marketing for one contact and WhatsApp Business Account, or block all sends and assignment for one contact and sending number. Waaru shows the scope on the contact record so an administrator can distinguish workspace consent from number-specific provider state.

Only use an exceptional clear when an administrator has verified the reason and policy permits it. Some restrictions are permanent by policy and require an explicit confirmation.

Create a static segment

  1. Open Segments and select Create segment.
  2. Choose Static - add contacts manually.
  3. Give the segment a specific name and optional description.
  4. Add existing contacts or import a CSV directly into the segment.
  5. Review the member count before using it in a broadcast.

Use names that describe durable membership, such as Mumbai store customers or August webinar registrants. Avoid names such as send today, which describe an action rather than the audience.

Choose a dynamic segment when membership should be evaluated from contact fields, labels, recent activity, or campaign outcomes. A dynamic match still does not create or restore consent.

How multiple segments work

When a broadcast uses more than one segment, a contact can match any selected segment. Waaru combines the segments as a union. For example, selecting Mumbai and Repeat customers reaches contacts present in either audience.

Waaru then removes opted-out or otherwise ineligible contacts. An empty segment or empty selection never expands into the entire contact list.

Check before a campaign

  • Confirm each segment's member count, type, and selection logic.
  • For a dynamic segment, review the rule revision used by an older draft.
  • Confirm the consent attestation reflects your actual records.
  • Check whether the intended sending number is eligible.
  • Use an approved template that matches the campaign purpose.

Next: Create a message template or create a broadcast.
